Major cPanel upgrade on the horizon

This is just a quick note that there is a major upgrade to our cPanel servers on the horizon. The upgrade is currently scheduled for the weekend of 18-May-2007. This upgrade will bring changes to the web interface, lots of back end changes for us a couple of new features.

We are looking for some feedback from everyone. We have come up with some ideas of what to write about on the Doreo blog, but we want your input and ideas. Just about anything is fair game as long as it’s somehow related to web hosting, web site software, SEO etc. Just post your ideas as comments and we’ll see what we can come up with.

Updates to the Doreo blog

Just a quite note that we have implemented quite a few changes and updates to the Doreo blog.
First, we’ve added three new categories to the blog:
- Doreo Recommends
This category will contain software and services that we like and use. We’ll also post recommendations from our clients.
- How To’s
As the name suggests, we’ll post various how-to’s in this category. We have started to compile a pretty decent sized list for this category based on common support requests.
- Your Website
This category will be a catch-all for any tools, software or techniques that might be useful for your web site. It will include everything from WordPress plug-in’s to phpBB mods to general SEO techniques or the latest trends in web site design. We believe that this category will be a lot of fun.
Secondly, we updated the overall functionality of the website. We’ve added:
- A new subscription system to be notified of new posts.
- A new option to be notified if new comments are added to a post.
As always, we appreciate any and all feedback on our website and blog. We’d like to keep it useful and fun for everyone.
Drazi outage - 29-Dec-2006

We are currently having an outage on the server “drazi”. Initial indications are that a hard drive within the RAID array failed. In an attempt to correct that situation the server was rebooted. As part of the reboot process the operating systems checks the various file systems (similar to a windows “chkdisk”). Depending on how many file have to be checked/correct the process can run from 5 - 10 minutes or take an hour or more.
We are currently monitoring the server and the recovery process, but there is not much we can do to speed it up. We will continue to update the blog with updates on this outage.

The server drazi has now recovered and all services are back on-line. We still have a failed drive and the RAID array, but we will schedule that maintenance for a future date.
